If you’re interested in outsourcing some of your online activities then this Fiverr review should provide an insight into what you can expect from the site.

Incase you’ve never heard of Fiverr before it is quite simply a website which lists hundreds of things that people will do for $5. There are a massive range of jobs available on Fiverr from people who will record videos for you, draw cartoons, tell your fortune or teach you a language. All for five bucks.

The main reason I wanted to create this Fiverr review is because I imagine that a number of readers may have had the same thought that I did when I first heard about the site – namely that Fiverr simply seems too good to be true.

I found myself wondering whether Fiverr was actually the bargain of the century or whether it’s full of talentless individuals who have been unsuccessful gaining freelance work on some of the more popular (and expensive) freelancing sites like Elance or Guru. Well, there was only one way to find out and that was through taking the plunge and actually hiring a few people to see what sort of results I got.

The Fiverr site itself is nice and simple to navigate around. The jobs available (known as “gigs” on Fiverr) are broken down into categories or you can use the search feature to quickly identify gigs that might be of interest to you.

Once you have a list of results there are three ways these can be sorted – either automatically, by popularity or by rating. On completion of any gig you’re also able to give that seller a “thumbs up” or a “thumbs down” together with adding a few lines of text about your experiences with that seller.

So it makes sense to sort the sellers by rating to ensure that you deal with freelancers who not only have experience with dealing with clients but who also have positive feedback from other community members. Even for $5 there’s no need to take unnecessary risk when you can easily hire someone with an impressive track record.

Once you’ve found the type of gig you want doing and have found the sellers with the highest ratings it’s just a matter of taking a closer look at what each of those providers is offering and then making a decision on who to use. You pay your $5 via Paypal, provide any information that the seller has requested and wait for an email from Fiverr to tell you the job is complete. While the gig is in process you can communicate at any time with the seller via the personal (private) message board set up for that job.

Over the last few weeks by following this simple sorting process I have hired seven providers to complete jobs for me and while I don’t want to reveal every last detail about my online ventures I thought it might be useful for some readers if I provided you with some actual concrete examples of which providers I have used and what results they have given me.

Logo Design

I used a seller called masonprods to design me two logos for a project I’m working on for this site. I don’t want to give too many details away yet because it’s probably quite some way off being ready to launch but here’s an example of the logo that this particular seller created for just $5:

Ebook Cover Design

Another seller I have had good results with is sevgraph who I have hired to design a number of ebook covers for me recently. Turnaround is super quick and the results are excellent in my opinion. Here’s an actual cover that I had designed on Fiverr:

Other jobs that I have outsourced on Fiverr include the creation of custom YouTube and Twitter backgrounds, the creation of website header images and the opening of social bookmarking accounts.

Overall I have received some very high quality work at amazingly low prices and I suppose you could say that the overbearing message from my Fiverr review is that I am very happy with my experience and that I fully intend to keep using the site.

If you’re at the point of considering doing some outsourcing then I think you could do a lot worse than actually stumping up five dollars, doing your due diligence in finding a highly-rated provider and testing the waters.

My experience was Fiverr was much different. I signed up for one of their $5 promo and ended up losing my Twitter account because of hacking. When I repeatedly asked for suggestions, help or anything, Fiverr ignored ALL requests.

Personally, I think they are a scam.

Thanks for the post. I am just getting started in internet marketing and website building. I too have just recently used Fiverr and had good luck.

I found you via Twitter!

So far this one post has had around 700 visitors in the last 24 hours. I'm just trying to figure out how everyone is finding it! If you're new here please leave me a comment and help me figure out where you heard about it... :-)

Many thanks,
Richard

Richard,

Ed Dale tweeted about this post. That's how I found it, and no doubt explains the traffic.

I just find oDesk to be much better than any of the other services. Where they suck is their payment methods...which have to be manually processed, instead of the funds being taken when you send them. There are some other minor issues with the setup. But in terms of finding a lot of talent quickly...and having no minimums to work around (Elance's biggest drawback, in my view), they have impressed me.

I've hired out about 100 gigs on Fiverr. Aside from the occasional language problems, I've found that service providers there are generally eager to please. Hard to believe when we're only talking about 5 bucks.

Some of the gigs there are pretty funny. Like "Tell me your deepest, darkest secret and I'll never tell anyone else...for 5 bucks". You could easily waste a few hours browsing thru them...and you have to admire the creativity.

My luck with logo design has been underwhelming...but most SEO tasks seem to be done well. Some of the romantic and creative ones are pretty cute.

I tend to use the sorting options to look at the most popular or most highly rated service providers in each category or search result.

For more in-depth outsourcing, I am now mostly using oDesk. But for quick hits, Fiverr folks seem to be able to do the job pretty well.

Chuck,

Thanks for all the grea input. I tend to use Elance still quite a bit but have been meaning to start experimenting with oDesk having heard so many good things about them. Any decent resources you've found about getting started with them?

Richard

Great review and thanks for sharing some examples. The fish book cover is great. Kills me to see folks spending $100's if not $1,000's for similar work.

I've used Fiverr three times and agree that if you carefully select the right person, you can save a ton of time and money - and even have some fun along the way. I'm still considering getting some surfer dude to read my script as he rides the waves.

Steiner,

You're right - I couldn't believe the quality of the work I got from many providers on Fiverr. Truly an amazing resource right now.

Warm regards,
Richard

I've been wondering about that site. It does seem like it's too good to be true, but by your examples, I think I'll give it a try!

Thanks for the review!
